Google Sitemap Generator

Google Sitemaps

A Google Sitemap is an xml file that lists the pages in your site and gives Google information about their changes and relative importance. Use the Google Sitemaps Tool to generate a map for your site. The sitemap is supposed to help
Google find all of your pages and keep its index fresh with any changes. Tags defined for the sitemap are:

  • Priority – relative importance of a page on a scale from 0 to 1 compared to the other pages in the site.
  • lastmod – date the page was last modified.
  • changefreq – how often the page changes. (hourly, daily, weekly, etc.)

A Google sitemap is used only by Google. If you want other search engines to find all of your pages, you should create a regular sitemap that also makes sense for a user to view. Google recommends doing both. After you generate a sitemap, you should upload it to your server so that it can be viewed at the root directory. For example: http://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

Then submit it to Google.

This sitemap generator only works for small sites (less than 100 pages) that do not have redirects. It can take a long time to run, so be patient. It will return a limited number of pages. To see the results, you need to use a browser that will display xml (even if the file does not end in .xml).

To capture the sitemap, try copying and pasting into a text file and replace all dashes with empty space. Or try to view the source code in your browser, and copy and paste into a text file. This tool will not work for all sites. If you have questions, comments, or a site that can’t use this tool,
